The Problem Facing Men, Today – update

As we surge forward into the 21st Century its become abundantly clear that the male of our species has essentially lost control over his existence – especially as it relates to women, or has he.  Is this a new phenomenon or has it been this way for years, only now becoming visible because of the changes in our social structure.   To answer this question, let’s take a closer look at history.

If we go back 5000 plus years we’ll find that “The Man”, back then, was the seat of survival.  He had to go out every day and do his “hunter/gathering” thing.  Slay the dragon, fight the neighbors, kill the game and bring ‘home’ the food.  Just think, an enormous feat was merely making it through the day without getting killed – becoming dinner for some ferocious beast.

As communities developed, women were required to stay close to the cave, or whatever was called home, interact with the neighbors – mostly other women, tend to the kids – those not yet grown enough to go out with Dad and hope that her Man would return safely with the meat for dinner.

Staying close to home wasn’t necessarily a walk in the park.  Women are and have been an intimidating lot and working together required tact and tenacity on everyone’s part.  For centuries women honed these skills; they developed the art of effective communications, the ability to influence others, how to negotiate and above all, how to survive.  After a while they began using these skills on their men – men were stronger, more powerful but they did very little talking with the beasts they were attempting to slay; if they traveled in groups, disputes were settled with a quick fight, resulting in one corpse and one victor – not much discussion or negotiating there, either.

So, the dragon slayer thought that because he was strong – having just slain the beast and killed his neighbor in a free for all, he was king – Man of the Cave, so to speak.  Except that he really wasn’t.  Women, armed with these other skills, plowed their trade and got their way with just about everything.  Occasionally she would err, push the dragon slayer too far and would get her head busted for her troubles; but for the most part she “ruled the roost”/cave.

Over time men recognized this and were perplexed.  Talking among themselves – y’know that man to man thing, they realized that they all had the same problem; even though they were still thought of as rulers of the realm.  So, the conspiracy was born.  Let’s ban together  – we men, and make sure that women have no say on anything that goes on outside the Home – hence, no rights to vote, hold public office, work, essentially no rights at all, except that which they had within the confines of the home.  Emperor Constantine re-wrote the bible to exclude any/all meaningful references to women; the church – all denominations, made sure women held only subservient roles.   Up to and until a hundred years ago, it was fairly easy to hold this rule in place because MAN was still needed for his strength and strength meant the ability to control – Right?

However,  in the early 60’s (and before to some degree) women began to breakdown the walls of containment – they were now; a) working, holding more important, less menial positions in major corporations;  b) participating in politics and winning/holding an increasing number of high profile political positions; c) demonstrating strength and leadership in law enforcement and the armed forces.  Clearly the real picture was beginning to form – the battle of the sexes was really no battle at all.  Nullify his physical strength and men were simply no match for women.  Those skills, developed over thousands of years, had now been fine tuned to a science and men could not compete.

Laws have now been created to prevent men from beating on women – this was their only tool –  the fist and of course, a penis for those who could – and recognize in retrospect, many could not.  Their only tools now lost or nullified, men essentially became inept.  Effective communications continued to be a significant problem – throwing a punch simply does not get the job done, plus it’s now a criminal offense; and constructing a sound logical argument to address a specific situation was simply not their forte.

So, how does all this play out in what we have today?

For starters, most households, within the Developed Nations, today are headed by women – I’m not talking about households where there is no male presence – no, the man of the house is present, however, he’s been regulated to the “Honey Do” list.  Women manage the home from end to end – they take care of the finances, direct most of what gets done to the home, almost all negotiations – purchasing appliances, automobiles, decisions on vacations, investments, you name it, its the woman’s responsibility, across all income and education levels.  And to add to his dilemma, the role as main “Bread Winner” has declined, as more and more women earn more than their husbands/male partners.   There are so many men, today who will not take any action, make any decisions about anything without first getting approval from his spouse.   Just take a look around, increasingly, men are the mascots in all too many movies and commercials, displaying stupidity and brainless/thoughtless behavior.

I’m not sure what, if anything can be done to remedy this situation.  The mold has been constructed and put in place over many, many years.  Men simply are not equipped to deal with the intricacies and complexities of interaction with women.  Men figured this out centuries ago.  But instead of confronting the problem and resolving it, they sought solace by ostracizing women – creating men’s clubs and fraternities where they could get together (as men) and talk about their sexual conquests or maybe fantasies, sports and other trivia.

By the year 2101 I predict that women, in our Western Societies, will be securely in the seat of power.  They will rule completely – not just the home, which they have done for years, but also governments and most large corporations.  Sorry guys but that’s the way it is.  Wake up and if you can, start thinking about counter measures.  And remember, no fists.

Since women have been fighting for their rights even then, I believe that it's just right that they are living a life with the right they want for their gender and for themselves. But on the other hand, I don't believe that men have lost their capabilities and power in the society. I believe in equality that's why I am not seeing it the way some people see this issue. I am happy that women nowadays can live freely, but I also believe that men still have their voices.

I do not agree that men have lost their control or power in this society. It would more politically correct to say that society has allowed women to also be in control and in power. It would be more appropriate to say that men has acknowledged that women can be their ally in everyday life. This is a perspective that must be maintained so that people will not think that there is a gender race. This is wrong for it divides humanity.

    About the Author

I was raised in a system governed by the British. I enjoyed my early years, as a kid growing up in Jamaica, West Indies, but always considered myself to be a thoughtful person, more concerned with understanding the accuracy of an issue – any issue, and less with the categorization of right vs wrong, good vs bad.  I never really understood why I thought along those lines – I just did.  However, as I matured I discovered that the essence of this thought process was the first step in my commitment to achieving a fair and balanced evaluation of events, as they occurred.

For me, Right and Wrong always seemed to be relative to something else.   Albeit that there may be some events that are unequivocal in their absoluteness, most issues tend to bounce between the two (right or wrong/good or bad) extremes, depending on the perspective/paradigm used to evaluate them.  Consequently, the end result for most of these conclusions is in that murky grey, middle area.

In creating this Blog, I am committed to focusing on an objective evaluation of whatever issue I bring forward.  I will endeavor to keep to a minimum any personal preferences, paradigm influences and emotions, in my evaluative efforts.

I welcome comments and criticism from anyone who accesses my site.  I will also make every attempt to provide a timely response to those comments.

Thank you for reading and I hope you find the articles amusing, at the least, enlightening at best.
